Roman Sunblock (Blockout) Blinds

The ideal product for someone wanting a dramatic and ponderous look. With its neat elegant folds, this blind brings that old traditional, retro and warm feelings to your surroundings.

  • Our vast collection of roller blind fabrics are at your disposal for a huge choice in look and feel. Please note that the flexibility of the fabric is the most important factor in deciding whether it is suitable for a roman blind, or not. All roller fabrics are therefore NOT ideal (and not recommended) for a roman blind.
  • For our roman blind, we use the super deluxe (bella roma) headrail which is a powder coated aluminium headrail with all the necessary drums and cords for smooth and effortless operation. We use stiffening rods (called figure 8) at the back of the fabric which ensure neat folds when the blind is pulled up. The system operates on a PVC white or silver coated or stainless steel ball chain.
  • The fabric is attached to the front of the headrail with velcro for easy removal when blind has to be cleaned.
  • Nickel-plated steel brackets are used for installation.
  • The bottom of the blind is finished off with a round aluminium lath (bottomrail) which is wrapped in the same fabric from which the blind is manufactured and closed-off with colour co-ordinated plastic endcaps on both ends.
  • Our roman blinds are not hemmed along the edges and should not fray if handled with care and if they do not chafe against any rough edges.
  • These blinds will let through light especially along the sides and against the wall (due to the figure 8 components) or where two blinds join in the middle.
  • Please remember that a roman blind made from blinds fabric does not have the same characteristics as those of a roman blind made from curtaining fabric.

  • This high quality imported fabric has been engineered with sound absorption features and assist in preventing noise pollution where it is used.

  • Unlike standard roller fabric, Rhythm is a technical fabric that creates ear comforting sound surroundings by absorbing distorted sound waves and reducing noise levels.

  • Rhythm also reduces echoes; absorbs sound and contributes to much improved audibility in office spaces, conference rooms, restaurants, hotel lobbies, cinemas, etc.

  • This fabric, with its special acoustic characteristics, is also highly suitable for home use in living areas.

  • No chemicals are used to harden the fabric and this also makes recycling of the fabric easier, minimalizing its biological footprint.

  • Rhythm is also far lighter than the “normal” panels required in construction for traditional acoustical performance and also easier to use.

  • The above features makes Rhythm a perfect choice for Smart and Green buildings.

  • Please note that this fabric has been weaved in such a way that it almost seems as if there are very small pinholes in the fabric – this is not a defect but in fact contribute to the Rhythm’s natural and elegant appeal.

Acusta chart - Blinds Factory

  • This data can be interpreted as follows: ±27% (left vertical line values) of a sound of 250 Hz (bottom horizontal line values) will be absorbed by this fabric. With a sound of 1000 Hz, however, Rhythm will have an acoustic absorption rate of nearly 80%.

Colour Accuracy Policy:
Although we do our best to make sure that the colours printed on our web site are accurate, actual colours will vary. In addition, subtle colour differences and textures may not be fully appreciated on some systems due to differences in monitors and/or display cards. Due to the fact that our products are all custom made, and can’t be returned, you need to be sure that you can live with any colour variations that are possible from our scanning of the actual samples. If an exact colour match is required, then please request a sample before placing your order. Once you receive your sample, keep in mind that all samples may still have minimal colour variations as stated by the manufacturers.

Always use a metal tape measure and NOT a cloth one as these are known to stretch and thus be inaccurate. All blinds are made to specified measurements, therefore we, as the manufacturer, cannot be held responsible for incorrect sizes/dimensions given by the client. Faxed or emailed orders are thus preferred and NO verbal or telephonic orders will be accepted. All the sizes should be given accurately in MILLIMETRES. Blinds measurements must be PRECISELY FROM WALL TO WALL – we shall make the necessary deductions ourselves, except if you already know the blinds’ final dimensions in which case you must clearly indicate that fact, and that no deductions should be made.

  • All measurements in mm
  • Always work on the smallest measurements
  • Measure where the blind will be installed in the opening (reveal / windowsill) – back (closer to the glass); centre (middle of windowsill / reveal) or front (closer to the edge of the windowsill)
  • Always order WIDTH x DROP (HEIGHT) and not the other way around!

REMEMBER TO ALWAYS GIVE THE WIDTH FIRST, THEN THE DROP!

On a roman blind if you measure an existing old blind, measure from end cap to end cap which is called the exact width. With a roman blind this is also called fabric or cloth width.

If a roman blind has to be placed on the outside of a window or behind a door it is always the safest to specify exact width or fabric width to ensure that the glass section is covered completely by the fabric. Also remember to measure exact drop of blind.  Always specify on which side the control mechanism should be placed. The required components will be supplied for your DIY project. With  Xroman blinds also the width by height (drop), fabric range and colour, reveal, fabric size, face fit and control sides must be included on order. When measuring for face fit add ± 100mm for both width and drop.

On roman blinds for reveal fit we deduct; 5mm off width and 10mm off drop, working to a tolerance of 3mm to 5mm. Remember to order correct blind size!!

POINTS TO CONSIDER REGARDING THESE FABRICS

  • Composition of fabric: 100% polyester with acrylic coating.
  • Openness factor: The Sateen fabrics are densely woven with blockout properties.
  • Light blocking effect: Apart from the light that will be let through along the sides as with any other blind the Sateen fabrics are by factory standards from the manufacturer 100% blockout.
  • Flammability: This fabric is not flame resistant. According to the manufacturer of this fabric it goes up in smoke instantaneously. They also state that the fabric will rather melt than go up in flames but still be careful.
  • Sun resistance: This fabric is highly resilient. On the interior of the blind there is no indication of discolouration but the side exposed to the sun the entire time does discolour over time. Also no fraying has been noticed on the Sateen fabric.
