Light Filtering Panel Blinds

Stemming from the age-old vertical blind, the panel blind is a great solution to fill spaces with large fabric-panels that slides in behind one another – they would for instance be perfect as a room divider or closing large glass panels between two side walls.

Polyester Panel Blinds

Stemming from the age-old vertical blind, the panel blind is a great solution to fill spaces with large fabric-panels that slides in behind one another – they would for instance be perfect as a room divider or closing large glass panels between two side walls.

  • The Panel blind is similar to the vertical blind and is utilised along the same principles albeit for a few differences.
  • It is important to understand that the Panel blind has wide panels depending on the number of panels per track and that the opening of the blinds is either left or right. There is a reverse (panels moving away from the draw cord) and normal (panels moving towards the draw cord) control side but no centre opening or centre stacking. It is also extremely important to understand that the panels cannot tilt in an open or closed position such as the normal verticals. The panels are always in a flat position therefore closed alongside one another with an overlap or open therefore behind one another when pulled away in the opening to the preferred side.
  • The first panel (fabric) on the front rail (rail on which fabric is attached) in the track (top track/headrail with 3 or 4 grooves) will always be the front panel as the other panels move in behind the first panel.
  • The draw cord always lies besides the stacked panels (with normal opening). Be careful that the cord does not hook onto the first stopper when opening the blind.
  • For face fit the panel track that probably would look the best would be the 3-panel track (headrail) as it is narrower and the panels can be moved away from the opening towards the wall entirely unless the entire opening in question is glass. Then a part of the glass will be covered by the panels. Should that be the case the 4-panel track (headrail) will be more conducive as the panels will be narrower and the view from the opening less obscured.
  • Different lengths of track will determine the width of panel rails in the track as we need to fit in the rails into the panel track therefore affecting the width of the panels of fabric.
  • It is important to understand the difference between what we call the track/headrail and the rail in this instance. The panel track is similar to the vertical track having 3 or 4 grooves into which the panel rails fit. Therefore the track is where the choice is made whether it should be a 3- or 4-panel blind and the rails (onto which the fabric is attached) are cut accordingly by ourselves and fitted into the track.
  • When you place an order for a Panel blind you will always need to specify whether you need a 3- or 4- panel Panel blind.
  • No bottom chain is required for these blinds. A white powder coated aluminium flat bar 30mm from top to bottom x 3mm thickness serves as bottom weight. The length of the bar will be determined by the width of the fabric panel.

SPECIFICATIONS ON THE POLYESTER SCREENING FABRICS: BRILLIANT, BRILLO, FROST & FRONTIER

POLYESTER SCREENING SPECS

The data presented above is an average representation of fabric specifications due to multiple factors such as colour, texture and solar properties. Specifications are subject to change without notice. Colours and materials will be based on our samples and subject to availability.

POLYESTER SCREENING SPECS
  • Over the last few years, the extraordinary evolution of interior solar protection products changed interior perspectives and the way many architects, developers, interior designers and other role players in this industry think. Today, a window covering is not considered just a piece of fabric anymore for decorative and privacy purposes only – it has become a trendy feature taking into account several factors such as the environment; ease of maintenance; energy saving and off course aesthetics – to name only a few.

  • Key elements of modern interior architecture such as energy efficiency properties; optimal levels of daylighting; reduced glare and light transmission have been incorporated into the development of this polyester screening. Thus offering the opportunity to take advantage of the effects of sunlight and to maintain the necessary heat values for energy saving.

  • Polyester screening is manufactured with 100% high-quality treated polyester yarn that does not smell and is free from PVC and other harmful substances.

  • This fabric offers sunlight at the desired level, allowing light penetration between 1% and 7% (openness factor). The screening is light weight and also has dust retention. It is an advanced solar control fabric and meets all the performance criteria as illustrated above.

  • Polyester screening is the ideal solution when it comes to interior solar control, energy efficiency and daylight comfort in any surrounding such as the home, office, hospital, hotel, etc.

  • The unique texture and wide colour offering of polyester screening makes this fabric an extremely valuable decorative component for interior aesthetics.

  • In Spring, the sunlight provides this fabric with a lovely natural look; while in the Summer it provides a richer look that prevents the harmful effects of the sun. At the same time, this fabric is dense enough to provide fare darkness in Autumn; while it can also provide a clear picturesque view from your living space with the warm Winter light shining through.

  • CLEANING: For normal dust, please use a light brush, feather duster or hair dryer (NON-HEAT / COOL SETTING) to remove the dust. When removing spots or flecks, use a clean white soft cloth or sponge and blot up as much of the spill as possible.  Do NOT rub.  Rinse the ENTIRE blind (fabric only) with clean and warm water and leave the fabric until it is completely dry. Do not use dry cleaning solvents; dishwashing liquid; laundry detergents or cleaners containing bleach or alcohol.  We recommend a synthetic detergent as would be used for baby clothes that does not contain harsh chemicals such as bleach and would also be suitable for fine washables such as silk or wool as well as flame-resistant fabrics.  Do not spray cleaning products directly on the fabric; instead use a soft, clean, white cloth.  Do not spray glass cleaners on the fabric during window glass cleaning.  When cleaning the fabric, always first clean a small part of the fabric that is not clearly visible like the rest of the blind.

KEY FEATURES OF THE SHEERWEAVE 4500

Please study this VITAL information, as the SheerWeave (patented brand name) is a highly technological product in a class of its own. If it does not say Phifer SheerWeave it is not a genuine SheerWeave product. Be careful of cheaper reproductions if you are into “going green”!!!

The SW4500 is a revolutionary 2×2 basketweave sunscreen manufactured using DOW ECOLIBRIUM™ technology exclusive to Phifer! DOW Ecolibrium™ does not detract from the sunscreen’s appearance or performance, and provides a sustainable green alternative to traditional sunscreens, without the PVC smell.

DOW ECOLIBRIUMTM is bio-based plasticizers made from modified vegetable oil which is not hazardous to the environment. They are readily biodegradable in the environment and are practically nontoxic to aquatic organisms on an acute basis.

This is the FIRST window shade fabric to be GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality and MICROBAN (USA based) and MELANOMA INTERNATIONAL certified, which makes this fabric a unique and very sort-after product. These certifications are only awarded when voluntary rigorous evaluation of the fabric is allowed by the manufacturer to ensure that the highest industry standards are being applied to maintain indoor air quality for the health and safety of all building occupants. Basic human comfort is a foundation of responsible design, and an essential key to comfort is air quality. Polluted indoor air has the potential to cause a variety of health issues; whereas clean indoor air helps improve physical well-being and enhances productivity in the workplace.

  • With its full basketweave design, SheerWeave 4500 is perfect for use in spaces where a high degree of shading and non-directional fabric is required, such as computer areas and windows unprotected against the sun.

  • SheerWeave 4500 is an energy saving fabric for both residential and commercial applications as the fabric lets through sufficient light during the day but also takes the glare off important equipment (such as televisions and computer screens) and shades an area without darkening it. Please note that direct sunlight on a window (eg with sunrise and sunset) will not be blocked.

  • SheerWeave is a state-of-the-art range manufactured under strict guidelines through ISO-certified production processes from the USA.

  • The eco-friendly characteristics of this product mean that it has been manufactured with bio-based plasticizers and there is a low carbon footprint with no PVC odour.

  • SheerWeave 4500 is recognized as low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) emitting (Green Star) by the Green building code of Australia. VOC relates to air freshness, ie the lower the VOC used in a product the fresher the internal air will be and the lower the health risk. When solvent-based or oil-based products are used they create a high VOC reading which is unhealthy.

  • Please take special note of the low carbon footprint. This has been historically defined as the amount of greenhouse gas emissions caused by an organization, event, product or person, measured by the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) produced. With SW4500 it is the amount of CO2 used in the manufacturing process and the fact that the product is biodegradable. In other words, when the product has reached the end of its lifespan it will not go to landfill but will be absorbed back into the soil because it is made from virtually 100% renewable feedstock. (Do we need to say more about the value of having this product to ensure a healthy environment?)

  • Should paint spill or drop onto these fabrics NOTHING will remove it!!

  • This high quality imported fabric has been engineered with sound absorption features and assist in preventing noise pollution where it is used.

  • Unlike standard roller fabric, Rhythm is a technical fabric that creates ear comforting sound surroundings by absorbing distorted sound waves and reducing noise levels.

  • Rhythm also reduces echoes; absorbs sound and contributes to much improved audibility in office spaces, conference rooms, restaurants, hotel lobbies, cinemas, etc.

  • This fabric, with its special acoustic characteristics, is also highly suitable for home use in living areas.

  • No chemicals are used to harden the fabric and this also makes recycling of the fabric easier, minimalizing its biological footprint.

  • Rhythm is also far lighter than the “normal” panels required in construction for traditional acoustical performance and also easier to use.

  • The above features makes Rhythm a perfect choice for Smart and Green buildings.

  • Please note that this fabric has been weaved in such a way that it almost seems as if there are very small pinholes in the fabric – this is not a defect but in fact contribute to the Rhythm’s natural and elegant appeal.
Acusta chart - Blinds Factory
  • This data can be interpreted as follows: ±27% (left vertical line values) of a sound of 250 Hz (bottom horizontal line values) will be absorbed by this fabric. With a sound of 1000 Hz, however, Rhythm will have an acoustic absorption rate of nearly 80%.

SPECIFICATIONS ON THE PVC SCREENING FABRIC (THIS FABRIC IS NOT SHEERWEAVE!)

greenguard-gold logo-Blinds Factory
  • Composition of fabric (Fawn; Oats; Meusli): 35% polyester, 65% PVC (Vinyl-coated polyester woven)
  • Composition of fabric (colours not listed above): 27% polyester, 73% PVC (Vinyl-coated polyester woven)
  • Openness factor: 5%
  • Light blocking effect: ±95%
  • Flammability: Tests revealed that the fabric falls well within the limits of flammability or flame resistance as it complies with Building Code of Australia requirements for Class 2 to 9 (a) building. It was tested to AS 1530 Part III. This flammability specification refers to colours snowfall; white/cream; white/beige; white/grey and black ONLY.
  • Sun resistance: According to the technical department at the company who supplies the fabric, there proved to be no fading even under harsh conditions. Tests have been conducted over a period of time against fading which revealed colour fastness.
  • Tearing / breaking strength: Unless a knife or a pair of scissors is used or the fabric is abused, tearing will not occur.
  • Cleaning method: Dust fabric regularly using a soft duster or soft cloth. You can also use a damp sponge to wipe the fabric and then dry it with a clean cloth. Please do not use any abrasive products or solvents / industrial based cleaners. Fabric should not be rolled up while it is still damp.
  • Greenguard Gold accredited: This means that this fabric is ideal for use in sensitive areas eg schools, old age facilities, hospitals, etc (tested against California Section 01359 for low chemical emissions [VOC’s]). This Greenguard accreditation refers to colours snowfall; white/cream; white/beige; white/grey and black ONLY.

Take Note:

The Brillo series has a “Shiny Metallic Look”

  • Colour Accuracy Policy:
Although we do our best to make sure that the colours printed on our web site are accurate, actual colours will vary. In addition, subtle colour differences and textures may not be fully appreciated on some systems due to differences in monitors and/or display cards. Due to the fact that our products are all custom made, and can’t be returned, you need to be sure that you can live with any colour variations that are possible from our scanning of the actual samples. If an exact colour match is required, then please request a sample before placing your order. Once you receive your sample, keep in mind that all samples may still have minimal colour variations as stated by the manufacturers.

Always use a metal tape measure and NOT a cloth one as these are known to stretch and thus be inaccurate. All blinds are made to specified measurements, therefore we, as the manufacturer, cannot be held responsible for incorrect sizes/dimensions given by the client. Faxed or emailed orders are thus preferred and NO verbal or telephonic orders will be accepted. All the sizes should be given accurately in MILLIMETRES. Blinds measurements must be PRECISELY FROM WALL TO WALL – we shall make the necessary deductions ourselves, except if you already know the blinds’ final dimensions in which case you must clearly indicate that fact, and that no deductions should be made.

  • All measurements in mm
  • Always work on the smallest measurements
  • Measure where the blind will be installed in the opening (reveal / windowsill) – back (closer to the glass); centre (middle of windowsill / reveal) or front (closer to the edge of the windowsill)
  • Always order WIDTH x DROP (HEIGHT) and not the other way around!
Animated GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

REMEMBER TO ALWAYS GIVE THE WIDTH FIRST, THEN THE DROP!

For drop, measurement is always taken on shortest side of window or frame or else the blind might “drag” on the sill or floor. Check the depth of the recess (sill). It should always be at least 75mm for a 3-panel or 90mm for a 4-panel. For recess fit we deduct 7mm off width and 5mm off drop.

We work to a tolerance of 3mm to 5mm. If window sills must still be tilled or floors must still be tilled/carpeted remember to make further necessary deductions. For face fit (outside) measurements add +/- 150mm to both sides if possible on width, ie 300mm in total and +/- 100mm above window or door frame for drop. Remember that a blind that fits on the outside of the window must hang past the window sill therefore please add on for exact width & drop as explained above. Indicate whether blinds are face fit for required components with which you will be supplied for your DIY project. Do not forget to indicate the fabric range and colour.

Remember to order correct blind size!!

  • Our imported “High Opacity” fabrics have been the most recognised brands internationally.

  • Kenté and Kanga (manufactured on a heavier base cloth) indicate a 100% density property making it a total blockout fabric.

  • Ease of cleaning is an important feature when choosing blinds fabric. These ranges are easy to clean, because the sealed acrylic coating resists dust, and marks are easily removed with lukewarm water, mild detergent, and a soft sponge, except for paint which cannot be removed.

  • These ranges consist of 100% polyester (PVC-free) with an acrylic coating making them extremely strong.

  • The ranges were tested for fungus and mould and found to have antifungal properties built in, as well as are mould resistant (these were on the tests done by our supplying manufacturer) showing no visible traces of either.

  • Fire retardancy is an important safety feature that reduces risk and is specified and used extensively in schools, nursing homes, hospitals, government projects and commercial buildings. For these contractual projects these ranges come highly recommended.

  • Kenté and Kanga conform to the Australian Building code standard regarding fire rating.

  • Our anti-fade blinds fabric is produced with a high quality acrylic coating that incorporates the most light-fast pigments. This produces a stable colour and results in a higher standard of fade resistance over the life of the blinds. It does not mean, however, that it will never fade.

  • These ranges contain no PVC content so it is environmentally friendly.

  • “X-Link”, also known as ‘cross-linking’, is a technology that chemically bonds the thick acrylic coating onto the polyester basecloth. This yields a stronger more stable blind that will stay flexible in both hot and cold conditions, outlasting most other fabrics.

  • Because our supplier has one of the harshest climates on earth (similar to the South African climate) they have to build in quality features not normally available in blinds fabrics produced elsewhere. Only longer-lasting polyester base cloths are used, coated with a ‘super tough’ acrylic that will withstand the harshest of climates and operating conditions. Their ‘free extra’ is longer-lasting, better performing blinds and the best value for your money!

We believe all information received from the supplier is accurate. It is offered in good faith, but without guarantee. Since conditions of use are beyond our control, all risks of use are assumed by the user. POINTS TO CONSIDER REGARDING THESE FABRICS

  • Composition of fabric: 100% polyester with acrylic coating for the fabrics mentioned in the table above.

  • Openness factor: The Sateen; Sun- and Solar block are densely woven with blockout properties.

  • Light blocking effect: Apart from the light that will be let through along the sides as with any other blind the Sateen; Sun- and Solar block fabrics are by factory standards from the manufacturer 100% blockout.

  • Flammability: Not one of these fabrics is flame resistant as given through by the manufacturers so do take care as with all other products. I have no test results yet however from the manufacturer of the fabric that they go up in smoke instantaneously. My manufacturers have given me the assurance that should they ever receive such a report they will immediately send it through to me. My logic and knowledge of these types of composite fabrics tell me that the fabrics will rather melt than go up in flames but still be careful.

  • Sun resistance: Here I can use the experience that I have built up about the fabrics. These fabrics are highly resilient. My experience with the Sateen; Sun- and Solar blocks is that they can withstand harsh sun as there have been no complaints whatsoever over the period that we have been selling it regarding discolouration on the exterior (side facing the sun) or the interior (side facing the room) or warping. This is also one of our fastest selling products thus far. What I have seen with regards to fading is that the exterior of the blind may over time discolour slightly. On the interior of the blind there is no indication of discolouration but the side exposed to the sun the entire time may discolour somewhat. With constant regular usage of pulling up and dropping the blind, the discolouration could occur gradually and slowly over duration of time and only on the exterior.

  • Cleaning methods: The Sun- and Solar block ranges can be wiped off with a soft sponge or damp cloth and light detergent. Do not immerse the Sun- and Solar block in water completely. Do not use any harsh product to clean the fabric with as this will remove the coating on the blinds.

  • Resistance to Fungi: This fabric has proven to be very resistance to the buil-up of most fungi. It meets or exceeds ASTM G-21 tests that it has undergone.

  • Washability: The material can be washed on both sides when gently rubbed with a mild 5% detergent solution in lukewarm water. This makes it ideal for environments where blinds will be handled often and where robust fabric is required.

  • Colour fastness: This fabric shall withstand significant colour changes because of its composition. Meets or exceeds AATCC 16, Option 3 – 2003.

  • Colour uniformity: The material is held to commercial colour variation. However, dyelot identity is not retained in manufacturing and slight dyelot differences may occur.

  • Room darkening: This fabric is manufactured to have a high degree of opacity (density) for effective control of light. No shadow shall be transmitted when an object is between the direct sunlight and fabric.
  • Colour Accuracy Policy:
Although we do our best to make sure that the colours printed on our web site are accurate, actual colours will vary. In addition, subtle colour differences and textures may not be fully appreciated on some systems due to differences in monitors and/or display cards. About

Our Business

Maintenance & repairs

Depending on damages sustained, broken or damaged blinds can easily be repaired or their components (e.g. mounting brackets, individual slats, tilting mechanisms, cord locks, valance clips, cords, cloth tape and ladders, etc.) can easily be replaced.

Professional is always better

Depending on the fit and location of where blinds need to be installed as well as the correct application of the type of blind, it is mostly an easy job. If you are not an accomplished DIY person, though, rather allow a professional person to measure and install your blinds. The difference between DIY and making use of a dedicated professional, will definitely show in the end! The responsibilities of correct measurements, advice and installation will rest on the shoulders of the chosen professional.
